Basic information
8. Amount calculation - it determines how the amount of product is calculated (square or runninig metres)
9. Quotation method - if the calculation of the amount is set per square metres, in this parameter you determine whether the amount is to be calculated according to the total material surface or the covering surface
10. Active – it shows whether the product is active. If the availability of the product is to be blocked, uncheck this box.
11. The precision of the amount – it determines the precision to calculate the amount
12. UM – unit of measurement
13. Technical specification link - URL address to file with specification brochure

Trapezoidal sheets
The algorithm for calculating non-modular roofings such as trapezoidal sheets, roof panels or seam panels. Covering width of the sheet is defined in the parameter effective width. You can use horizontal or vertical bookmark or set as covering without bookmarks. In this case, effective width and total width must be the same, and the length of the horizontal bookmark must be 0. Depending on the parameter "Assembly" covering is installed vertically or horizontally. The length of the sheet can be limited with the parameters "Minimum length” and "Maximum length". When the length of the slope is greater than the maximum length of the sheet, the system will use two sheets vertically. When "Vertical installation" is set "from the longest", maximum sheets will be applied at the bottom and the last sheet will be tailored to the needs. For the parameter "proportionally" all the sheets vertically will have the same length. When „calculation of the amount” is set in square metres, then in „quotation method” you can decide whether the amount is to be calculated with or without bookmarks.
Steel roof tiles
The method of calculating the roofing material suitable for roof tiles cut to size. Covering width of the sheet is defined in the parameter effective width. You can use horizontal or vertical bookmark or set as covering without bookmarks. In this case, effective width and total width must be the same, and the length of the horizontal bookmarks must be 0. The algorithm assumes modularity of the sheets. In addition, the length of the sheet is matched to the list of unavailable dimensions. If the length of the sheet is on the list of unavailable dimensions, its length will be extended to the minimum length satisfying the requirements. When „calculation of the amount” is set in square metres, then in „quotation method” you can decide whether the amount is to be calculated with or without bookmarks
Unavailable lengths
The list of length ranges impossible to produce. The system will increase the length of the sheet to the next, possible to produce, length of the sheet.
29. Select "new range"
30. In the fields Dimension from/to input the range of length impossible to produce in mm
31. Select Modify
Perform these operations for 2 ranges,
32. While adding the third range "Fill ranges" will appear. It will the entire list ranging from minimum to maximum length on the basis of two previously ed ranges
Roof fittings (flashings)
The algorithm is used to calculate the flashings mounted on the edge of the slope. (ridge tiles, valley gutters, eaves flashings, etc.) Pointing to the edge of the slope, the system calculates the amount of flashings needed to finish. When defining such a product, you need to set in "amount calculation" if the result is to be in linear metres or units. If you select calculation by units, it is important to determine the effective length (covering) of flashings expressed in mm.
Corner
The algorithm is used for counting the flashings on the edges. On the slope figure you indicate for which vertices the flashings need to be calculated. You use this type, eg. for stopends, corners and others
Accessories per item
The program calculates the demand for components, the number of which is connected with the roof surface. In the product parameters you define the standard with two numbers: multiplier and divisor of quantity. The amount of the selected accessory has the formula: SQUARE METRES OF THE ROOF * MULTIPLIER/DIVISOR.
Modular roofing tiles
The algorithm is used to calculate the amount of modular roof tiles to cover the roof. Covering width of the sheet is defined in the parameter effective width. In addition, you should also define the number of modules (double or single modular), the length of horizontal bookmarks in mm, and the number of waves. The last parameter is important when optimizing waste and during interlocked installation. In „Assembly” you should choose if it will be parallelly one above the other, or interlocked (like bricks in a wall). Finally, the default assembly direction and automatical waste management should be set.
Others
We use this type of product when we want the amount to be ed in the offer by the user. Amount is not connected in any way with the design of the roof. Such products may be added in the offer tab.
Roofing tiles
Algorithm used to calculate concrete or ceramic roofing tiles. While definining product you you will asked for:
36. Min effective width - it is the width when tiles are maximally squeezed (horizontally).
37. Max effective width - it is the width when tiles are maximally streched (horizontally).
38. Min effective length - it is the length when tiles are maximally squeezed (vertically).
39. Max effective length - it is the length when tiles are maximally streched (vertically).
40. Unit weight - weight in kilograms of single tile
41. Vendor declared m2/norm - this is information from vendor, how many tiles must be put to cover each square meter. It is used only to show results comparison with system calculation.
42. Using marginal tiles - specify if hood, verge or ridge special tiles
43. Min % tiles coverage (0-always) - percent of minimum coverage, e.g. 25 means that tile will be put only if tile will cover roof in at least 25%, 0 means that tile will be put even if it cover 1% of roof area only.

4. User Interface - Define roof design
The user interface consists of 4 main elements:
• Action toolbar - menu with tabs and icons
• Main window - central and largest part of the screen
• Properties - On the right side of the application screen there is a panel of properties for the selected item. In this window, there are settings of roof, slope, shape, edge shape or material.
• Document inspector – this contains roof designs used in quotations and an offer section that allows you to prepare an offer for the customer.
Depending on the selected item in a document inspector other functions are available.
4.1. Roof 1
4.1.1. Action toolbar contains functions to delete and insert new slopes, insert slope from repository, create a new roof. You can also import dimensions of the roof from RS Roofs 4.
4.1.2. In Properties, you can change the name Roof 1, add a description and check the total roof surface.
4.2. Slope 1 (for all slopes in Roof 1) - checking in a document inspector element representing the slope the following steps are made available:
4.2.1. In the main window look and dimensions of the slope will appear.
4.2.2. By clicking on the main window (no selected shape) you set slope properties. In Properties, you can change the slope inclination, name and edit pre-defined division lines
4.2.3. Selected shape - in the properties of the shape there is a list of slope vertices. Each vertex has a unique identifier (ID), coordinate X, Y. The actual value of Y (independent of the inclination) is placed in column Yr.
4.2.4. Selected edge shape - the coordinates of the edge and edge length are shown in the properties
4.2.5. In the action toolbar you can find:
• Draw shape - a tool to create a new shape of the slope. The first shape is a slope contour, all subsequent slope shapes are holes
• Add shape from repository - library of ready-made shapes
• Remove slope - removes the entire slope from the list
• Rotate - rotate the selected shape by 90 degrees
• Vertical and horizontal reflection - converts the selected shape, mirrored around the X or Y axis
• Copy slope - creates a copy of the selected slope
• Create bands X and Create bands Y - creates predefined lines connecting sheets. Selecting in the material tab TRAPEZOIDAL SHEETS and PANEL assembly method "by division lines" sheets will be connected at the divisions (eg. for facades, eg. at the pillars)
4.3. Offer
The tab contains the fields to complete the number of the offer and a description.
4.4. Customer data
Complete customer data to be printed on offer
4.5. Offer lines
4.5.1. On this tab, you can complete prices of items on offer, add services / additional materials. Use the discount and calculate gross profit.
4.5.2. The toolbar contains functions to create offer variants
4.5.3. In the main window there is a list of offer items. The basic variant called "All" contains all the positions from quotation. You can add additional items, not originating from quotation using the icon bar on the main window, above the table. Below you find description of the columns in the table of offer items:
• Price from the price list
• UM - unit of measurement
• Discount and suppliers - what discount in relation to the price from the price list you have negotiated with the supplier.
• Sales price – sales price (if different from the price list)
• Discount % - discount for customer as a percentage
• Value of sales - calculated value of sales
• Value of purchase - calculated value of purchase
• Gross profit - the value of gross profit from sales
4.6. Offer summary
Extra field for user's notes.
5. User Interface - the choice of materials for quotation
Having introduced the roof design (all slopes), select materials for the quotation. To do this, select the tab Material. The toolbar contains functions to choose materials. depending on the context of the selected item (shape, edge, vertex)
5.1. Add flashing.
5.2. Add corner.
5.3. Add accessory.
5.4. Add roofing.
The window of roofing selection will appear. After selecting the type of roofing in the "Products", a list of available products will appear. Below the selected product the list of roofing parameters and a photo will appear. If roofing is to be applied to all slopes, leave the selected value "All" in the parameters in "Apply to"
Roofing will be added to all slopes. By switching slopes in a document inspector in the main window, you see the way of the sheets calculation. In RS Roofs 5 you can add more than one roofing to one roof design. In Properties, you can switch between roofings and see dimensional list for slopes.
There is a special tab with settings and functions to optimize the adaptation of material for each selected roofing in the toolbar.
5.4.1. Tab TRAPEZOIDAL SHEETS AND PANELS
Assembly:
• Way of laying sheets – place of connecting sheets when more than one sheet is needed
- From the longest - the maximum sheets, then cut to size
- Proportionally - all the sheets of the same length
- By division line – connection place is determined by the slope division line
• Orientation of laying sheets
- Vertically
- Horizontally
Installation:
• The direction of installation (depending on vertical or horizontal orientation)
- From left / from top
- From right / from bottom
• Move
- The value of moved sheets in mm
- Sheets centering
Optimization:
• Rounding in mm – determines the accuracy of the length of sheet
• Overlap in mm - the length of the vertical overlap when connecting sheets
• Alternating connecting in mm
- jeśli 0 - arkusze łączone w linii,
- If 0 - sheets connect in a line. Value greater than 0 causes that connecting even-numbered strips is carried out below (zip)
• • Optimize - each change of roofing parameters in sections: assembly, installation and optimization requires the use of this button. The system then calculates optimum solution again using new conditions. "All slopes" means that the parameters will be used during optimizing for all slopes. Changing this option will limit the scope of changes in the parameters to optimize only to the current slope.
Results:
Actions in sheets selected in the main window
• Select – when it is on it lets you mark sheets, reduce, change positions. Marked sheets can be dragged while holding down the left mouse button. While moving the mouse to the upper or lower edge of the sheet, the cursor will change to a two-headed arrow. You can now change the length of the sheet with the mouse. You can use shortcut keys:
- Ctrl+arrows – moving sheets
- Shift+Up or Shift+Down– sheets enlarging and reducing
• Cutting line - a function to divide sheets. If sheets are marked, cutting will be only for marked sheets. If no sheet is marked, all sheets will be cut in line
• Connect sheets - it allows you to connect adjacent sheets. Both must be marked
• Remove from slope - it allows you to delete the marked sheets.
• Select all - it marks all sheets in the current slope
• Uncheck all – it unckecks all sheets in the current slope
• Enlarge – it enlarges marked sheets
• Reduce - it reduces marked sheets
• The length of the sheet mm - with this field you can change the length of the marked sheets indicating in mm its new size, and then press ENTER. With this function it is possible to determine the length of the sheet, even if their size exceeds the maximum length.
• Snapping sheets - when the function is active, the adaptation of the sheets is easier for the user, because the system on the basis of adjacent sheets facilitates matching the length and position of sheets
• Arrows to move the sheets - functions to move the sheets
Material:
• Remove material - it allows you to remove material from the offer
• Close – it closes the toolbar of the material. This allows you to hide the results in the drawing, without removing them from the offer. As a result, we can add another material.
